Belkıs için / For Belkıs

“Belkıs Taşkeser creates beautiful, unique, intimate work which follows inner prompting and tunes in to an maybe central Asian, almost shaman-like ancestral memory that comes as a result of her ongoing drawing process and not as a prior intention of the work. [This is my attempt to describe and honor the work.] The imagery is laden with potential narratives that offer great opportunity for stories and telling in Artship/halka forms of presentation.”

“Belkıs'ın işleri, insanda sanki her an hangi dünya mitolojisinden olduğunu anlayıverecekmiş gibi bir duygu uyandırır. Kişi içgüdüsel olarak anlatıların içine çekirir ve ardından hemen, sanatçıya bunun hangi anı-tarihsel, mitolojik anlatıdan geldiğini sorma ihtiyacı hisseder. Oysa cevap hep aynıdır. Belkıs bütün birikimi ile neyi neyle harmanladığı düşünmeden, kendi içsel yolcuğunun zaman zaman sembolik zaman zaman bilinç dışı izleriyle bezeli biçimde özgün görsel dilini yaratmıştır. ”

“Belkıs' work evoke a feeling in the viewer as if they could instantly discern which world mythology they belong to at any moment. One is instinctively drawn into the narratives, and then immediately feels the need to ask the artist which historical or mythological story they originate from. Yet the answer is always the same. Belkıs, without considering what she blends with what, creates her own unique visual language, imbued with the sometimes symbolic, sometimes unconscious traces of her inner journey, and drawing upon all her accumulated knowledge.”

“2013'te Belkıs Taşkeser'in resimlerini ilk gördüğümde bunların hiç bilmediğim bir dinin tapınaklarında çekilen fotoğraflar olduğunu düşünmüştüm. ”

“When I first experienced Taşkeser’s drawings in 2013, I thought they were photographs taken in the temple of some religion. But one dose not have to be a member of any sect to feel the power of her archaic images in which a few colors do the heavy lifting for their reality. On November 6, 2025, we bade farewell to Belkıs. I would like to believe that the thousands of drawings, sculptures, prints, and ceramic works on our walls and in our hands as well as our mutual book ‘Um / Hope’ may fill the void she has left behind.”

“Belkıs Taşkeser’in yapıtları bize insanın kendini anlamasındaki yöntem sorununa götürüyor.

“Belkıs Taşkeser's works lead us to the methodological problem of self-understanding. The calmness of the historical style and lines seen in her works almost rejects the speed of the contemporary. By setting aside cliché colour choices, she underlines the possibility of alternative perspectives. Although Taşkeser seems to embrace historical narratives at first glance, she doesn't fundamentally engage in storytelling. For her works allow us to construct stories from the thoughts swirling in our minds. Ultimately, we realize that what we want to see and understand in her paintings is none other than ourselves.”

Her çizim, annenin yavrularına duyduğu sevgiyle dolu. Her çizimin İsis’in sütü, kanı ve gözyaşlarından oluştuğunu söylemek abartı olmaz.

“The magnitude of Belkıs Taşker’s work took me entirely by surprise, for it displays a depth of spiritual insight that one very rarely encounters in modern Art. If one peers through the veil of shamanic images one may perceive the artist's work as no less than a modern rendering, if not to say witnessing, of the deeds which brought forth the world’s creation. There are profound resonances between this work and the ancient Egyptian myths of creation. Every drawing is permeated with the Mother's love for her offspring, and it is no exaggeration to say that these works are constituted from the milk, blood and tears of Isis. There is nothing of the artist’s personal beliefs or opinions in this work. Through the fiery agency of suffering her Eye has regained a virginal quality which streams as healing innocence throughout her work.”
